Toshiba's enterprise SSDs (eSSDs), MK4001GRZB / MK2001GRZB / MK1001GRZB, were awarded the Director-General's Prize, The Agency for Natural Resources and Energy in the Product Category & Business Model Category of the Grand Prize for Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Conservation from the Energy Conservation Center, Japan with the assistance of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

This commendation program publicly recognizes enterprises, factories and offices in Japan's industry, business and transportation sectors for their efforts at energy conservation as well as business organizations that have developed products with excellent energy efficiency. Its objectives are to raise energy conservation awareness, promote energy conservation products, cultivate industrial fields involved in energy conservation and help create energy conservation society. The commendation program is conducted by the Energy Conservation Center, Japan with the support of METI.

Toshiba's eSSD is the industry's first eSSD product using 32-nm NAND flash memory as a storage medium. In a test with a 70/30 read/write ratio, it has delivered an approximately 250x improvement in random-access performance in terms of IOPS per watt (IOPS/W*1), compared to our high speed enterprise hard disk drives (HDDs). Toshiba hopes that a storage system, in which with Toshiba's eSDDs in conjunction with high-speed enterprise HDDs and low-speed, high-capacity HDDs, will not only save electricity and floor space required for storage systems for cloud computing and data centers, but also reduce the electricity use of power-supply and air-conditioning (heat radiation) facilities of buildings.
